We have wanted to experience this guest house for two years. It is very well marketed and advertised on Social Media, it was one in the box that needed to be ticked off. Well it did not disappoint. In fact we had a wonderful three days in Darling, and stay at this beautiful little piece of heaven. The private dinner, was to die for, candles I could not count. What a treat!!!!! Nina's cooking amazing! A dinner dinning experience everyone should try. Breakfast both days were out of this world, with beautiful elegant table settings each morning. A sight for your eyes! What a wonderful stay. 6 nights, was a dream of a holiday in Darling and surrounds. So much to do and see. People are so friendly in Darling, and our guest house was top notch. Could not have asked for anything more. Nina and her delightful team were 5 star. The romantic dinners was a big treat, as Darling does not have many places to go to eat. If it is one thing you do, when coming to Darling, is book a candlelight dinner for two with Nina's superb cooking. Out of this world. For cosy romance, Nina Monda and Derek Poole’s Maison de L’amour is a perfect bolt hole. They are wonderfully generous hosts and if the candles, lace brocade and festooned four-poster brass bed don’t tickle your fancy, then the white ostrich feather left on the double bed, with a note quoting Milan Kundera: "Two people in love, alone, isolated from the world, that’s very beautiful", might.
We stayed in the intimate Gardener’s Cottage, which has its own entrance and en suite separated from the room with pub-style swing doors shaped like angel’s wings. If you subscribe to the less-is-more school, this spot isn’t for you but, if you’re after a place where you’d like nothing more than to curl up in each other’s arms, read a great book and listen to the birds, this is recommended.
A delicious cooked breakfast is included in your stay. Ask Nina to make her yogurt and mascarpone breakfast sundae. Although we didn’t have dinner there (by prior arrangement only), if breakfast is anything to go by, it will be sensational.
Nina is well known in PR circles and as an upscale event co-ordinator and the decor at Maison de L’amour reflects this.
She has created a warmly welcoming space from antique and junk-shop finds — an old Victorian bath keeps a stash of firewood and it is likely there are more candelabra than on a Liberace stage.
The Honeymoon Suite in the main house has the largest bed, a two-person bath and toilet and basins that are open to the room. There is another interior room available.
Highlights include the decor, the large garden table shielded from the heat by a roof and white cotton curtains and garden that, come sunset, is transformed with candle-lit nooks and crannies aflame. But it is Nina, Derek, their team and the food that stand out.

What a lovely place! didn't imagine this at all in the heart of Darling. A real treat, Nina and her staff are brilliant hosts. Could not do enough for us. Even packed us a picnic basket for the beach and road trip.

What a wonderful find! We spent two nights in the freestanding Gardener's Cottage. Being separate from the main house makes it slightly more private, with the added luxury of your own lounge area. Interiors tastefully decorated with antiques, lace and crystal chandeliers. Pool and patio areas are equally luxurious, with Nina's incredible attention to detail. You cannot imagine you would find a place like this in Darling. It is so far way above the rest!!! What a pleasure to arrive and be welcomed by such friendly staff and owners. From the moment we arrived to the time we left, we enjoyed every minute of our stay at this delightful guesthouse. Nina's dinner was truly amazing, the best ever!! My seared salmon is by far the best I have ever had. Jame's fillet steak was butter in the mouth. Our breakfasts different every day, and wow, also a feast for the eyes. This is probably the most beautiful guesthouse I have stayed in to date...the rooms are magnificently stylish and the facilities are of the highest standard...from the innovative round swimming pool to the stunning outdoor breakfast eating area we were thoroughly impressed. The lovely hosts were very friendly and accommodating and nothing was too much for them to do for us. Just to say once again many thanks for the great sanity break last week, both E and I so needed it and absolutely loved your beautifully appointed honeymoon cottage.
You might or might not have picked up that E and I were not the most vibrant and social of couples when we arrived on the Thursday, mainly due to the fact that neither of both have had a break in six years and although we had jointly decided to ‘gap it’ for four days, we had a blazing row en route and were not in the best of moods on arrival –and you so graciously put us in the Honeymoon Cottage! We chuckled about that later and realized that it was probably exactly what we needed.
Your home is a wonderful reflection of the interesting life that you and Derek have built together over the years – its shows in every touch.
Your angel ladies were right – there is such energy at Maison de L’amour with a story behind each and every piece.
Thank you for sharing your home with us and the delish breakfast that you and Smiley prepared for us in your stunning living/ dining room – I couldn’t think of a better way to start a Friday.
